About Pioneer Cottage
Pioneer cottage is located on Asbury Avenue just three and one half short blocks from the ocean and three blocks from all the quaint shops on Main Avenue in Ocean Grove. It is part of the desirable northern section of town bordering Wesley Lake, the great auditorium and the summer tent residents of the Camp Meeting. A stones throw from the house is a footbridge to all the great bars, cafes and shops of the new revitalized Asbury Park. When in Asbury Park, browse the new galleries and shops along Cookman Avenue. Take a walk up to the beach and pay homage at the Stone Pony where you just might catch Bruce Springsteen showing up for an impromptu jam session.
The house consisting of a 4 bedroom main-house and 2 bedroom apartment, built in 1870. The main house consists of two floors with a large wrap-around porch on the north and east side of the house. The apartment consists of a single floor unit with covered front porch. Both units have fenced in courtyards in the back perfect for those family cookouts.
Main House
Starting on the second floor, you'll find 4 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. We were able to refinish the original hardwood floors on the second floor and bring out their original shine and luster. The front two bedrooms are larger with a queen size bed in one room and full size bed in the other. The master bedroom has some of the original built in storage cabinets/drawers we preserved from the original house. The front bedroom includes cable television. The middle room facing the east is the smallest and has a full size bed in it. The medium sized back bedroom faces to the south and the “Great Auditorium” has a full size bed. Air conditioning is available in all bedrooms during summer months. The completely remodeled bathroom contains a glass-block wall tub/shower and custom pedestal sink. Downstairs you find the second bathroom with tiled shower, a formal dining room, living room and family room. A television w/ DVD player is viewable from couches in either room. The large wrap-around mahogany porch is accessible from both the living room and the family room. Screen doors we retained from the original house allow cool sea breezes to circulate through the downstairs. Antique stained glass windows are located in the dining room and the downstairs bathroom. The kitchen has been remodeled with granite countertops, a center island, whitewashed mahogany custom wood cabinetry and a maple wood kitchen table. The back glass door opens out to a fenced in patio area. The backyard is accessed by a door off the dining room and includes a large picnic table and grill for those family cookouts! An outdoor shower is available in the back to rinse off sand coming off the beach.
In the basement of the main house is a washer and dryer for your convenience.

Apartment
As you walk up the steps to a covered porch look back over the beautiful unobstructed views of Wesley Lake. Though not large in size, apartment is very functional and perfect as a summer guest house. The main bedroom to the left has a full size bed; the 2nd and smaller bedroom has a single bed. A small sleeper sofa is in the living room. The galley kitchen and eating area are in the back. The backdoor opens to a small fenced in patio which includes a small grill and café table.
